William Owen "Buckey" O'Neill, was a judge, sheriff and newspaperman in Prescott, Arizona during the late 1800's. Buckey O'Neill was the first person to volunteer for the First US Volunteer Cavalry Regiment in 1898 which was headed by Theodore Roosevelt and dubbed the Rough Riders. He was killed at the battle of Kettle Hill near San Juan, Cuba, during the Spanish American War. Buckey's wife, Pauline, was the sister of Linette Young/Bremmer, and my great-great grandmother. Aunt Pauline gave a signed copy of a book entitled, Buckey O'Neill, by Ralph Keithly, published in 1949, to my Great Uncle Bob along with her father's obituary dated July 5,1908 and a letter from her son Maurice O'Neill with his fathers leather dressing recipe enclosed in the back of the book.
